130 flights were cancelled as a result of the accident at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport between a Japan Coast Guard aircraft and a JAL passenger plane.

Despite this uneven situation, there have been no cancellations of international flights for both companies.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism told the media that they needed to fix the damage relating to the runway after careful investigation regarding the same. Furthermore, they are still unsure of the exact time frame for the reopening.

Both ANA and JAL will consequently cancel the flights due to the congestion at the airport. They will also cancel because of their inability to schedule flights due to problems concerning accidents.

On Thursday, ANA made the announcement that it would be terminating 65 flights from Kansai, Hokkaido, and other areas to Haneda. Almost 15,400 passengers are bound to be impacted by the disruptions. It is anticipated that JAL will also cancel 68 domestic flights, affecting approximately 13,000 passengers.

Approximately 17,000 passengers were impacted by JAL’s Wednesday cancellation of 98 domestic flights. 25,770 passengers were impacted by ANA’s 119 domestic and one international flight cancellations. At Tokyo’s Haneda airport, a Japan Airlines aircraft collided with a smaller coastguard aircraft on the runway, causing it to catch fire.

The authorities told the media that five of the six crew members on the Coast Guard aircraft perished, but all 379 passengers and crew members were evacuated. The captain fell victim to injuries.

After landing, the airliner was engulfed in flames and skidded down the blazing runway.

Several fire trucks were seen making their way to the scene as a plume of smoke emanated from the aircraft. Passengers were surrounded by a thick layer of smoke in the footage from inside the plane. The passenger plane caught fire until the engine was completely demolished.

However, police in Tokyo confirmed within hours of the fire that the pilot was severely wounded and that the five coastguard crew members had lost their lives.
