In an attempt to cultivate stronger bilateral relations and unlock new avenues for development in tourism and trade, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) held a meeting with the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines, Jing Quan. During this meeting held on December 16, 2025, it was emphasized that it is imperative for both countries to cultivate new avenues for mutually beneficial exchanges, particularly in tourism, trade, and business development. The meeting also aimed at increasing cooperative endeavors between both nations before the commencement of the ASEAN Summit in 2025.
During the dialogue, the FFCCCII and Ambassador Jing discussed various ways to deepen the partnership between the Philippines and China, in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directives to bridge international partnerships. One of the key points raised during the conversation was the active promotion of Philippine products in major Chinese forums. The FFCCCII proposed that more Philippine goods be showcased in Chinese trade events, which would not only bolster exports but also improve the Philippines’ presence in China’s growing consumer market.

The discussion also centered on enhancing the Philippines’ appeal as a top tourist destination for Chinese travelers. With the Philippines known for its pristine beaches, rich culture, and welcoming people, there is a growing opportunity to attract more visitors from China, one of the largest outbound tourism markets globally. Chinese tourists are increasingly seeking international travel experiences, and the Philippines offers a unique combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism that appeals to this demographic.
One of the most exciting prospects discussed in the meeting was the promotion of the Philippines as a premier tourist spot for Chinese nationals. As travel trends evolve, more Chinese tourists are venturing outside traditional destinations like Europe and the United States, seeking new and exotic locations within Asia. The Philippines, with its stunning natural landscapes, world-class resorts, and vibrant cultural scenes, is positioned to capture a larger share of this market.
The Philippines is already a popular destination for Chinese travelers, especially with the proximity of major cities like Manila, Cebu, and Davao, making it an easy and attractive getaway. Additionally, the Philippines’ tropical climate, which is a major draw for tourists looking for sunny destinations, further strengthens its appeal. With more targeted promotional campaigns and better connectivity between China and the Philippines, this sector is expected to see substantial growth in the coming years.
The FFCCCII highlighted that in addition to promoting tourism, the Philippines should also focus on creating a welcoming environment for Chinese tourists by improving facilities, enhancing tourist services, and ensuring ease of travel through visa facilitation and streamlined airport processes.

In addition to tourism, the FFCCCII also discussed the potential for empowering Philippine enterprises through business collaborations with China. As both countries continue to strengthen their trade relations, there is great potential for Philippine businesses to tap into the vast Chinese market, which boasts one of the world’s largest consumer bases. The FFCCCII has long been a strong advocate for fostering stronger business ties between the two countries, and this dialogue served as an important step in realizing that goal.
The federation emphasized the need for a balanced, mutually beneficial exchange in business and trade. By forging new partnerships and increasing investment in key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and technology, both the Philippines and China stand to gain from a deeper economic relationship. These partnerships will also contribute to job creation, technology transfer, and the overall development of both nations.
Looking ahead, the FFCCCII has announced that it will host the 2026 ASEAN Chinese Business Leaders Summit in Manila, in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit that will also be held in the Philippines. This event will provide a platform for further strengthening economic ties between China and ASEAN countries, highlighting the Philippines as a key player in the region’s economic integration.
The summit is expected to attract top business leaders and policymakers from both China and the ASEAN region, fostering dialogue and collaboration in key industries. By hosting this summit, the Philippines aims to further solidify its position as a leading destination for business and investment in Southeast Asia, while also contributing to the broader goals of regional economic growth and cooperation.
The FFCCCII’s engagement with Ambassador Jing and the broader efforts to deepen the Philippines-China partnership reflect a growing recognition of the importance of regional economic integration. As global protectionist trends continue to rise, ASEAN countries are increasingly looking for ways to strengthen trade and business ties within the region and with major partners like China.
By building on existing relationships and fostering new ones, the Philippines is positioning itself as a hub for trade, investment, and tourism in Southeast Asia. The country’s robust infrastructure, strategic location, and growing economic clout make it an attractive destination for businesses and tourists alike. Strengthening these regional partnerships will help the Philippines continue to thrive in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
In line with these aspirations, the upcoming ASEAN Chinese Business Leaders Summit in Manila in 2026 will play an important role, where leaders of businesses across Asia will gather to improve relations between China and the Philippines. As it looks to move ahead with these programs, there is a bright future ahead of Philippine-China relations, which will continue to experience growth in many areas.
