Tourism Authority of Thailand Hosts Amazing Thai Night at Cannes Film Festival 2026, Boosting Film Tourism and Showcasing Thailand as a Premier Travel Destination

Amazing Thai Night was organized by The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) at the Cannes Film Festival 2026 (13-23 May) as part of efforts to enhance the image of the Kingdom as an internationally renowned destination for filmmaking and tourism. It is part of the campaign dubbed “Amazing Location Thailand the Story Continues: From Scene to Scenic Journeys” aimed at developing the film tourism policy as part of the Thailand FILMAZING Year 2027 program.
Positioning Thailand as a Global Film and Healing Destination
Held at Annex Beach on 14 May, the event welcomed international filmmakers, media professionals, industry leaders, and KOLs for networking under the theme “Healing is the New Luxury.” The showcase emphasized Thailand’s cultural depth, creative talent, and wellness offerings, positioning the country as a premier film tourism destination that delivers immersive experiences combining cinema, travel, and lifestyle. By attracting high-profile international delegates, the event boosts both Thailand’s reputation and inbound tourism potential.
Thailand Pavilion and Industry Engagement
The event formed part of Thailand’s public-private sector participation at the Thailand Pavilion under a Filmtination theme, featuring seminars, media briefings, workshops, and product presentations. Opened by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Mrs. Suphajee Suthumpun, the pavilion offered a platform to connect film production with tourism development, illustrating how cinematic exposure can drive visitor interest and tourism revenue.
Krabi: A Model for Film-Driven Tourism
Krabi Province exemplifies the link between film production and tourism sector growth. With limestone cliffs, mangroves, waterfalls, islands, and cultural sites, Krabi has hosted productions including Jurassic World: Rebirth, Fast and Furious 9, and Alien: Earth. These projects showcase the destination’s cinematic appeal while driving visitor engagement, local spending, and sustainable tourism development.

Linking Film Production to Tourism Sector Growth
Thailand’s film production ecosystem contributes directly to the tourism sector. In 2025, 546 foreign productions generated over 6 billion Baht, while 218 productions from January to April 2026 contributed 2.46 billion Baht. Incentives such as cash rebates up to 30% encourage international filming, increasing destination visibility, visitor interest, and tourism receipts. The Thailand FILMAZING Year aims to reach 10 billion Baht in production revenue in 2027, highlighting the strong synergy between film production and tourism sector growth.
Expanding International Promotion
Looking toward 2027, TAT plans to:
- Expand global promotional content showcasing Thailand’s film locations
- Engage international media and streaming platforms
- Organize familiarisation trips, film talks, and location briefings for producers, KOLs, and influencers
- Develop 10 curated film location routes connecting cinematic sites to visitor experiences
These initiatives strengthen Thailand’s heritage and wellness tourism, translating on-screen stories into real-world travel experiences that stimulate hotel bookings, local dining, transport, and attraction revenues.
Thailand Pavilion and Public-Private Collaboration
The event was part of TAT’s broader Thailand Pavilion at Cannes, opened on 13 May 2026 by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Mrs. Suphajee Suthumpun, with a reception hosted under the patronage of HRH Princess Ubolratana. The pavilion showcased seminars, workshops, media briefings, product presentations, and networking events to engage international film and tourism stakeholders. The initiative demonstrates Thailand’s integration of film production, cultural tourism, and local economic development, reinforcing the country’s growing influence in the global film and travel sectors.
Tourism Sector Impact
Events like Amazing Thai Night and initiatives targeting Krabi and other film locations demonstrate the economic and cultural value of film tourism. By attracting filmmakers, media, and visitors, these programs increase hotel occupancy, boost local service industries, and promote international tourism awareness. They also encourage sustainable development, creative economy growth, and destination marketing, positioning Thailand as a high-value tourism market for 2027 and beyond.
