Tourism Malaysia, together with the Sabah Tourism Board and the Sabah Trade and Tourism Office Singapore, recently organized a business-to-business (B2B) seminar as part of the ‘Meet-The-Experts’ programme, complemented by a 6-day, 5-night familiarization trip (FAM Trip) to various Sabah destinations. This initiative aims to promote Malaysian Borneo as a captivating and affordable travel choice.

The event took place at the Sabah International Convention Centre, where 20 travel agents from Singapore engaged with 18 local stakeholders, including Sabah’s travel agents, tourism product providers, and hotel operators. This gathering served as a fruitful platform for discussions and networking, while the FAM Trip offered a deep dive into Malaysia’s distinctive tourism attractions.

Participants explored Sabah’s dedication to sustainable and responsible tourism, experiencing its rich cultural heritage, beautiful islands, lively traditions, diverse food, and stunning scenery.

The ‘Meet-The-Experts’ programme, launched by Tourism Malaysia Singapore in 2022, aims to enhance cooperation and exchange knowledge among tourism professionals from Malaysia and Singapore. It has been instrumental in creating new business ties, renewing contracts, updating products, and crafting appealing travel packages for Singaporean tourists.

Starting in Johor Bahru and later held in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, the programme has successfully attracted participation and led to the creation of 157 unique travel packages, offering undiscovered treasures and rich cultural encounters.

This initiative plays a crucial role in strengthening the relationship between the tourism sectors of Malaysia and Singapore, with the goal of creating more appealing and quality travel experiences. As we approach Visit Malaysia Year 2026, we are excited to attract more visitors to Sabah and Malaysia.

The ASEAN region remains a significant contributor to Malaysia’s tourism, with Singapore being the leading source of tourists, notably contributing to the 8.3 million arrivals in 2023.

Looking ahead, Malaysia is set to welcome 27.3 million tourists in 2024, aiming to generate RM102.7 billion in revenue. With Visit Malaysia Year 2026 on the horizon, the ambitious goal is to attract 35.6 million international tourists and achieve a target revenue of RM147.1 billion.
