Tourism Malaysia took part in the Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) this year. It is the biggest assembly of the golf segment in Asia, and the event is held for re-establishing its networking connections with the worldwide golf industry community. AGTC was held at the Seagaia Convention Center in Miyazaki, Japan from 14th to 16th March.

After being harshly affected by the pandemic, Tourism Malaysia’s involvement in AGTC displays an outstanding prospect to relink with the golf industry community not only in Japan but also with global players.

Besides engaging with golf buyers from overseas, Tourism Malaysia officials will also organize meetings with important Japanese representatives specializing in marketing golf packages. These meetings will become a platform for keeping these representatives updated on the newest developments in the tourism sector of Malaysia.

In addition to Tourism Malaysia, AGTC 2023 will encompass various important Malaysian golf segment players like the Els Club Desaru Coast, Saujana Golf Resort, Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club, Liberty Golf Services and Senibong Golf Club.

Malaysia offers 148 golf courses ranging from 9 to 36 holes, with the ability to present almost 8 million rounds of golf yearly, generating approximately RM450 million in earnings. Out of the total number of golf courses obtainable, 50 are of global standard, coming with state-of-the-art facilities able to host globally authorized golf tournaments.

In 2012, Malaysia effectively hosted the first AGTC in and the country was entitled to organize the event again in 2020. However, because of the border closures globally owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers were forced to shelve the event.
