The tourism sector in Malaysia will focus on small group tours with the country fully reopening its borders, said Tourism Malaysia senior director (domestic & events division) IskandarMirzaMohdYusof.
“Mass tourism might not be suitable at this point in time. We will focus on attracting smaller groups of tourists to comply with standard operating procedures,” Yusof said at the My Destination Sabah & Labuan roadshow in Putrajaya.
He added that the tourism sector in Malaysia is ready to welcome international tourists again once the borders reopen. However, the situation will depend on whether or not other countries allow their citizens to travel for tourism purposes.
“Over at Tourism Malaysia, we really encourage international visitors to experience the many new tourism products in the country,” Yusofsaid.
Some of these include community-based tourism initiatives and experiential tours that are closer to nature. Domestic tourism is also important for reviving the industry.
“We encourage Malaysians to continue travelling within the country and explore the many tourism attractions here,” Yusofsaid.
