Train services have encountered delays and cancellations due to two separate incidents involving trespassers on rail lines in Darlington and County Durham.

Reports indicate that several trains between Darlington and Newcastle faced cancellations or significant delays following trespassing incidents at approximately 6:30 am. Another incident involving trespassers occurred on the line between Durham and Darlington.

According to National Rail, the disruption is anticipated to last until 10 am. A spokesperson stated that following an earlier trespassing incident between Newcastle and Durham, lines have now reopened. However, services between Newcastle and Darlington may continue to experience cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes, or route changes.

As a result of these disruptions, passengers are encouraged to use alternative services. Passengers with tickets for affected routes are permitted to use their tickets on services provided by Grand Central, Northern, TransPennine Express, CrossCountry, LNER, Lumo, and TransPennine Express.

Affected routes include those operated by CrossCountry between Edinburgh and York or Exeter St Davids, and between Newcastle and Exeter St Davids. Additionally, routes operated by LNER between Aberdeen and Leeds, and between Edinburgh and Newcastle, Doncaster, or London Kings Cross, are impacted. Lumo services between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross, and Northern services between Carlisle and Middlesbrough or Saltburn, are also affected. TransPennine Express services between Newcastle and York or Liverpool Lime Street are among those impacted by the disruptions.

The incidents have caused inconvenience for travelers, leading to changes in travel plans and the utilization of alternative transportation options. Such disruptions underscore the importance of adhering to railway safety protocols to ensure the smooth operation of train services and the safety of passengers and railway personnel.

These incidents highlight the need for improved railway safety measures and public awareness campaigns to prevent trespassing on rail lines, ultimately minimizing disruptions to train services and enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
