Trains Collide In Indonesia With 478 Passengers Onboard

In Indonesia, a tragic train collision resulted in four deaths and at least 22 injuries as two trains carrying hundreds of passengers collided in West Java province. The front carriages were severely damaged, and several others derailed.

Today i.e., on Friday, this accident took place when from Surabaya, the second-largest city of the country, a long-distance train was coming and it collided with a commuter train close to Bandung, the provincial capital, said a spokesperson for the transport ministry, Adita Irawati.

In those two trains, a total of 478 passengers were on board, said a spokesperson, Ibrahim Tompo, for West Java police.

From local broadcasters MetroTV and Kompas TV, video images were being showed where it’s seen that passengers are being rescued from train carriages. Some of them had gone off the rails completely after the accident at 6:03am local time (23:03 GMT).

Both trains front carriages have got completely mangled wrecks as other compartments have got derailed and upturned on a stretch of tracks that ran through paddy fields.The driver and his assistant on the commuter train and a steward and a security guard on the express train were those four people who died immediately, Ibrahim said. Rescuers were trying to recuperate the body of one crew member.
