UK’s FCDO now lists Pakistan as a high-risk travel zone due to increased threats, expanding the no-go list to 24 countries, reports Geo News.
The United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has recently expanded its advisory list to include Pakistan among the locations deemed unsafe for British nationals, according to a Geo News report. The FCDO’s latest update now lists a total of 24 countries where travel is discouraged.
This advisory highlights various dangers that could affect tourists, such as criminal activities, conflict, terrorism, health epidemics, adverse weather conditions, and natural disasters, with references to a report from the Manchester Evening News as cited by Geo News.
The update also incorporates countries currently experiencing conflicts, listing new additions such as Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Iran, Sudan, Lebanon, Belarus, and the Palestinian territories.
The list of countries advised against for travel includes Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Chad, Haiti, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Niger, North Korea, Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
Furthermore, the Foreign Office has introduced a red list, as reported by Geo News, highlighting areas where travel should be considered only if strictly necessary.
In 2023, Pakistan experienced a significant escalation in violence, recording 1,524 deaths and 1,463 injuries from 789 terrorist and anti-terror operations. This included nearly 1,000 deaths among civilians and security personnel, according to Dawn. The total number of deaths last year was the highest since 2017, marking a peak not seen since 2018, with violence intensifying yearly since 2021.
