India warns against travel to Iran and Israel amid rising tensions, advising citizens to stay safe and avoid the region.

In light of the recent military engagement where Iran targeted Israel, with reports of sirens and explosions in major cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, India has released a travel advisory strongly discouraging travel to both Iran and Israel. This advisory comes in response to escalating tensions, with incidents such as airstrikes and diplomatic conflicts adding to the region’s instability.

Issued on a Friday, this guidance is aimed at ensuring the safety of Indian nationals by advising against travel to these countries until further notice. Indian citizens currently in Iran or Israel are urged to contact the Indian embassies there for assistance and to register their presence. They are also advised to take extreme caution, limit their movements, and stay informed about their surroundings.

This advisory was quickly announced following accusations from Tehran that Israel had conducted an airstrike in Syria, resulting in the death of several high-ranking Iranian military officials. Tensions have been gradually increasing, leading to heightened concerns over the safety and security in the region.

Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, expressed significant concern over these developments, including an attack on Iranian diplomatic facilities in Syria earlier in the month. He called for restraint and adherence to international law by all parties involved.

Currently, there are approximately 18,000 Indians in Israel, many of whom work as caregivers and IT professionals. Iran hosts around 4,000 Indian nationals, including academics and small business owners. Following India’s lead, countries like France and the US have also issued similar travel advisories due to the ongoing conflict.
