The vacation season in China has officially begun, with travellers preparing for the Mid-Autumn Festival, which begins a week-long break from September 30 to October 6. In anticipation of the event, the China State Railway Group announced a remarkable sale of almost 22 million train tickets.

The Mid-Autumn/Golden Week travel rush got underway with bustling scenes at railway stations in major cities like Wuhan, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Zhengzhou. This travel fervor comes on the heels of the relaxation of zero-Covid policies, signaling a resurgence in travel activity.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a culturally significant traditional event in China. It honours the moon and is observed with rice and wheat gifts. The celebration has great familial and societal significance, as it allows families, friends, and relatives to reunite and share the joy of the season.

This yearly travel boom highlights China’s continued value of tradition, family, and cultural events. It also symbolises the country’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic’s struggles. It’s a measure to the tenacity and brightness of China’s holiday spirit that millions of Chinese travellers are embarking on vacations to be with loved ones and make cherished memories.
