The National Emergency Crisis Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has issued a severe weather warning for the UAE, prompting a series of precautionary measures to ensure public safety. In response to this warning, Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters utilized X (formerly known as Twitter) to communicate significant speed reductions on various key roads throughout the region. The reductions set the speed limit to 100 Km/h on several roads including Tahnoun Bin Mohammed road, Maktoum Bin Rashid road, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Intl. road, Abu Dhabi – Al Ain road, and Sweihan road.

With the potential for adverse weather conditions, local authorities have urged the public to remain indoors whenever possible. However, for those who must travel, it’s important to be aware of the new speed limits and to exercise caution. The police have also advised drivers to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, avoid sudden stops, and be particularly careful on curves to prevent skidding. Additional guidance includes avoiding valleys and areas where water accumulates and securing windows and loose objects against strong winds.

In an effort to minimize the disruption caused by the rainy weather, remote work and study arrangements for government entities have been implemented for Tuesday, April 16. The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has assured the public of its preparedness for the inclement weather, noting that all necessary resources, including reserve generators and water tanks, are ready to support any emergencies and assist local efforts.

Residents have also received SMS messages and alerts about how to respond to the severe weather conditions, including tips on ensuring the safety of electrical appliances at home and within other facilities.

For emergencies during this period, the public has been reminded of the important contact numbers: Abu Dhabi Police (999), Electricity Emergency (991), Water Emergency (992), and the Department of Municipalities and Transport for reporting water accumulations (993). Additionally, the public has been warned about the risks of ignoring advice to stay away from large bodies of water, as it could lead to violations of ministerial resolution no. 178 of 2017, which pertains to traffic law in the country.

This proactive response from various UAE authorities highlights how the tourism sector and general public safety can be effectively managed through timely information dissemination and strategic planning. Such measures not only protect residents and travelers but also maintain the integrity of the region’s infrastructure during severe weather conditions.
