Travelport, a global leader in multi-source travel content and technology solutions, has confirmed a significant leadership transition that signals both continuity and forward momentum for the company. The organization announced that its current Chief Executive Officer will step down from the role at the end of March 2026, marking the conclusion of a transformative chapter while ensuring stability through an orderly succession plan. The outgoing leader will remain actively involved by continuing to serve on the Board of Directors, supporting the company’s long-term strategic direction.
From April 1, 2026, Travelport will be led by its current Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, who has been appointed to the Board with immediate effect. The planned transition reflects a carefully structured handover designed to preserve operational strength, customer confidence, and innovation focus during a period of rapid change across the global travel technology landscape.

Since assuming leadership in 2019, the departing CEO has overseen a period of substantial evolution for Travelport. The company strengthened its relationships with travel agencies and suppliers, broadened its international footprint, and accelerated the modernization of its technology platforms. During this time, Travelport navigated industry-wide disruption, including unprecedented global travel challenges, while continuing to invest in next-generation solutions that improved efficiency, transparency, and choice for customers.
Under this leadership, Travelport focused on simplifying a traditionally complex ecosystem by enhancing content aggregation, improving system reliability, and prioritizing innovation across air, hotel, and other travel segments. The company’s emphasis on collaboration and inclusion also shaped its internal culture, helping to attract talent and foster resilience. These efforts were widely recognized within the travel technology sector, reinforcing Travelport’s position as a trusted partner for agencies and suppliers seeking scalable, future-ready solutions.

The incoming Chief Executive Officer brings extensive global experience at a time when the travel industry is being reshaped by digital acceleration, evolving distribution models, and artificial intelligence. Having joined Travelport earlier this year, the new leader was tasked with strengthening operational scale, system stability, and product innovation to meet the growing demands of a highly competitive and increasingly sophisticated marketplace.
With more than three decades of leadership experience across technology and travel, spanning both business-to-business and business-to-consumer environments, the new CEO is recognized for deep industry insight and an ability to drive growth in complex global organizations. His background includes successfully scaling large e-commerce platforms, leading organizations through periods of disruption, and positioning companies for sustainable recovery and expansion.
Before joining Travelport, he led a major global travel marketplace specializing in metasearch, guiding the business through the challenges of the pandemic and into a strong recovery aligned with emerging generative AI capabilities. Earlier in his career, he headed a prominent international online travel agency, where he expanded operations across multiple regions, accelerated revenue growth, and played a pioneering role in adopting new airline distribution standards, helping to reshape how travel products are sold and managed.
As Travelport looks ahead, the leadership transition underscores a strategic commitment to continuity, innovation, and long-term value creation. With a solid foundation built over recent years and a new chief executive prepared to steer the company through the next phase of digital transformation, Travelport aims to further enhance its role as a critical technology partner in the global travel ecosystem.
John Mangelaars said: “I’m honored to take on the role of CEO at such an exciting time for Travelport and the industry. Our mission remains clear: to enhance travel retailing by delivering smarter, faster, and more connected solutions for our customers. I look forward to working with our excellent team and valued partners to continue driving innovation and growth.”
