TUMI launches first Asia-Pacific flagship in Tokyo Omotesando

TUMI, a premier brand known for travel, lifestyle, and accessories, has just announced the inauguration of its inaugural flagship store in the Asia-Pacific region. This remarkable store, situated in Omotesando, a prominent luxury fashion hub in Tokyo, Japan, stands out as a pioneering establishment drawing inspiration from TUMI’s iconic 19 Degree collection. As a global first, the store’s unveiling was marked by an exclusive VIP preview event on December 20, graced by key figures like Victor Sanz, TUMI’s Creative Director, Takumi Kitamura, a renowned Japanese actor and singer, along with executives, business partners, VIPs, and influential personalities from across the region.

The unveiling of TUMI’s premier Asia-Pacific flagship store in Omotesando, Tokyo, Japan, was highlighted by Victor Sanz, Creative Director of TUMI, and Takumi Kitamura, the Japanese actor and singer, unveiling the store amidst a ceremonial Japanese Kagami-Biraki.

Distinguished by its distinctive design influenced by TUMI’s celebrated 19 Degree collection, the ground-level flagship store spans an expansive 2,000 square feet and showcases a myriad of captivating design features. The store’s façade boasts the iconic contours of the 19 Degree collection illuminated by hundreds of LED lights and adorned with over 250 aluminum fins, showcasing an innovative edge curve cutting technique. Within the store, a remarkable 19 Degree Aluminum sculpture by perceptual artist Michael Murphy mesmerizes visitors, creating an optical illusion of the TUMI “T” logo emerging from the aluminum piece as observers move around it.

The store’s interior is marked by sleek T-shaped elements integrated into the floor fixtures and a sophisticated blend of materials featuring marble flooring alongside hairline and polished stainless steel. Noteworthy design elements include softly curved fixture edges enhancing the welcoming ambiance, a circular seating area reminiscent of an art gallery boasting a towering digital display, and a magnetic wall featuring seasonal rotations, all complementing the mesmerizing 19 Degree Aluminum Sculpture by Michael Murphy.

Victor Sanz, Creative Director of TUMI, expressed his excitement, stating, “We are delighted to introduce TUMI’s newly envisioned store in Omotesando. We’ve encapsulated the essence of TUMI—its superior quality, design excellence, and technical innovation—into a distinctively unique design inspired by our iconic 19 Degree collection. Every meticulously planned detail and element within the store is a testament to TUMI’s brand identity.”

The grand opening of the first Asia-Pacific flagship store by TUMI in Omotesando was celebrated in grand Japanese style alongside the exclusive unveiling of the 19 Degree Aluminum Sculpture crafted by pioneering perceptual artist Michael Murphy.

The inauguration festivities witnessed over 220 guests partaking in various activities. Commencing with a traditional Japanese Kagami-Biraki ceremony led by TUMI’s Creative Director, Victor Sanz, and Takumi Kitamura, the event featured a lively DJ performance by KEKKE, live art illustrations for the TUMI Fragrance by artist Tomokazu Fukuchi, and personalized calligraphy by Hideya Kitamura on TUMI leather notebooks as special gifts for attendees. Additionally, some guests indulged in a ride aboard the TUMI 19 Degree Bus.

Previewing the Spring 2024 collection, the Asia-Pacific Flagship Store showcased key highlights such as the 19 Degree Aluminum Backpack, Minaudiere, and Briefcase, in addition to other new product offerings.
