Previously, in order to enter Turkey, nationals of Canada, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain had to apply for an electronic visa. Nonetheless, applicants will be able to apply online for a Turkish visa, considering they are nationals of more than 40 other countries. Some nationalities can apply immediately for the Turkish e-visa, which does not need any additional requirements. Others will be able to meet certain eligibility requirements; this involves holding a visa or residence permit from the United States, a Schengen nation, the United Kingdom, or Ireland.

A total of over 46 million foreign visitors visited Turkey by the end of November 2023, exceeding the number for the entire year 2022, which was just under 45 million, according to the most recent figures released by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
