Air ticket sales by U.S. based travel agencies had increased 5.9 per cent year-over-year to U.S. dollars 9.1 billion in April as per Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC). The airline ticket sales had risen 3 per cent year-over-year in March 2019.

In April, U.S. domestic trips rose by 4.2 per cent versus March’s 2.7 per cent. International trips grew by 3.9 per cent in April as compared to a 4.3 per cent increase in March.

Reports show that the average U.S. round-trip ticket price was U.S. dollars 499, up from U.S. dollars 487 in March. The total number of passenger trips settled by ARC for U.S. travel agencies rose 4.1 per cent year over year to 27.7 million.

Electronic miscellaneous document sales, which cover ancillary purchases, rose 23.7 per cent to U.S. dollars 8.6 billion last month, having climbed 4.6 per cent to U.S. dollars 7.9 million in March. ARC attributed April’s 23.7 per cent increase in sales volume to ancillaries for group travel, such as tour groups. April EMD transactions fell 3.9 per cent to 116,408, having decreased 8.4 per cent to 117,868 the previous month.

A similar single-month spike occurred at this time last year, but it is to be seen whether the growth will continue through the rest of the year.
