Top 10 countries with best air connectivity in 2024 revealed by Mabrian, highlighting key global travel hubs and a significant Europe-China flight surge.

Mabrian, a top company that studies tourism, has shared information about the ten countries that are the most connected by international flights in the early part of 2024. This list shows which countries are the most important for people wanting to travel abroad, making them key places in worldwide tourism.

This research looks into flight schedules from January 1 to June 30, 2024, and compares it with the same time in 2023. It shows how connections between countries for flights have changed a lot.

One of the biggest changes noticed is between Europe and China. Countries like Spain, France, Italy, the UK, and the Netherlands have seen a huge boost in flights to China, now offering nearly 2 million seats – a 190% jump from the 682,000 seats available in the first half of 2023. This increase is thanks to a new policy by China that lets people from these European countries visit China without a visa for up to 15 days, aiming to bring back tourists from Europe.

Here are the top 10 countries with the most seats on international flights:

  1. United States: 83,540,022 seats
  2. United Kingdom: 72,806,356 seats
  3. Germany: 53,650,569 seats
  4. Spain: 53,402,095 seats
  5. United Arab Emirates: 41,829,422 seats
  6. France: 41,148,774 seats
  7. Italy: 39,233,697 seats
  8. China: 35,125,071 seats
  9. Turkey: 32,514,540 seats
  10. Japan: 28,851,733 seats

Together, these ten countries offer over 482 million seats for international flights, making up 42% of all the international flight seats available in the first half of the year.

Carlos Cendra, CMO at Mabrian, comments on the importance of this information: “Anticipating the potential of origin markets regarding their outbound air connectivity is a key factor in identifying where tourist demand will be and the most relevant opportunities for global destinations and tourism companies. However, it is essential to analyze each destination specifically”.

Gavin Eccles, director of GE Consulting, a company specialized in air connectivity, comments that “US carriers are once again heavily investing in their international strategy, leading to a notable increase in seats across the Atlantic for Europe. The robust outbound markets of the UK and Germany are also experiencing significant growth in seats and connections as they recover strongly from the pandemic. The resurgence of China with a substantial number of routes and seats is promising, and if this growth continues, 2024 could surpass 2019 as the year with the highest international connections. Additionally, the influence of Emirates and Etihad is evident in the considerable international seats offered through the UAE, highlighting Dubai and Abu Dhabi as global hubs facilitating travel to and through the region”.
