UAE rolls our airfare

The UAE is taking initiative for faster Schengen Visa processing time as well as reduced airfares.

This service is exclusively for expats, or foreign residents of the UAE.

Passport holders in the UAE are exempt from visa requirements.

But, foreigners residing in the country must apply for a visa to visit Schengen countries.

Previously taking one to two months, the turnaround time for these visas has significantly improved.

European embassies in UAE now is offering booking slots that enable visa process in under two weeks.

Despite efforts by the embassy to expedite visa dispersals, Monaz Billimoria, Regional Head at VFS Global, advises UAE residents to plan ahead to avoid potential delays, especially during peak seasons.

According to a source, visa applications have seen a 12 percent increase between 2019 and 2023, with a remarkable 145 percent surge from 2021 to 2023.

Despite a 22 percent rise in travel expenses, Europe remains a preferred travel destination for UAE residents.

Daniel Rosado, Director of the Spanish Tourism Office in Abu Dhabi, noted, “Projected seats from the UAE for Spain’s winter campaign increased by 7.9 percent, searches from the UAE to Spain surged by 27 percent, and airline bookings by 29.1 percent.”

In addition to the reduced European visa processing time, airfares have also decreased due to heightened competition among airlines.

Fares to various popular European cities now fall below USD 301.70 (Dh 1,108.08). In 2023, travel demand to Europe experienced a 40-50 percent surge.

According to Schengen Visa news souce, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Germany are the most sought-after destinations for UAE travellers in April.

Analysing the dip in airfares, one can observe the change in economy fares for a Dubai to Paris route. In December 2023, the flight cost approximately USD 452.55 (Dh 1,662.13).

However, the projected rates between January 10 and January 24, 2024, stand at USD 143.20 (Dh 525.94) via Wizz Air and USD 271.09 (Dh 995.66) via Emirates.
