Indonesia uses international campaigns and tribal village tours to create demand for new tourism products. Indonesia is developing its tourism in other countries through international campaigns, destination development, and local community travel fairs, networking, and cultural events. Indonesian tourism authorities are looking to attract international visitors while building Indonesia’s tourism infrastructure and ecosystem to include education, wellness, marine tourism, food tourism, high end tourism, and community based tourism.

Throughout August 2026, Indonesia carried out several promotional campaigns designed to connect domestic tourism businesses with global markets. These included international sales missions, travel fairs and specialised networking programmes aimed at increasing visitor interest and generating new business opportunities for the tourism sector.

The promotional activities created potential travel demand involving more than 16,800 visitors, highlighting Indonesia’s continued effort to strengthen its position as one of Asia’s leading tourism destinations. The campaigns targeted different traveller segments, allowing Indonesia to promote its diverse tourism products across multiple international markets.

Indonesia Expands International Tourism Campaigns Through Targeted Global Market Strategies

Indonesia’s tourism promotion approach is moving beyond traditional destination marketing by focusing on specific traveller groups with customised programmes. The strategy includes educational tourism, marine adventures, wellness experiences, culinary journeys, domestic travel and premium luxury holidays.

The country’s international outreach included the Australia Sales Mission, which aimed to strengthen connections with one of Indonesia’s key visitor markets. Business networking activities and travel exhibitions also helped tourism companies showcase new packages, destinations and experiences to international buyers.

The BBWI Merdeka Berwisata Travel Fair further supported tourism recovery by encouraging travel demand, while educational tourism programmes connected Indonesian destinations with potential school and learning groups. Luxury business networking activities focused on attracting high-value travellers seeking exclusive experiences.

By combining different promotional channels, Indonesia aims to increase visitor numbers while improving tourism spending and extending economic benefits to destinations outside major tourism hubs.

Indonesia Uses Gastronomy And Spice Heritage To Build Stronger Global Tourism Appeal

Indonesia is also strengthening its global tourism identity through food culture and culinary diplomacy. The country has supported the S’RASA initiative, a national collaboration designed to promote Indonesian spices, culinary products and gastronomy internationally.

The programme connects tourism development with Indonesia’s rich food heritage by using traditional flavours as a tool to introduce the country’s culture to global audiences. Through international partnerships and business connections, Indonesian cuisine is gaining greater visibility in overseas markets.

Business-matching activities conducted during Trade Expo Indonesia created opportunities for Indonesian restaurants to expand internationally. Agreements were reached to support the opening of Indonesian restaurants in Australia, the Netherlands, Italy and Malaysia.

The government is continuing to develop the overseas Indonesian restaurant ecosystem by providing access to financing support, training programmes and business development opportunities. This approach aims to help Indonesian culinary brands compete globally while promoting the country’s tourism image.

Tourism Safety Program Strengthens Marine Experiences And Destination Quality

Alongside tourism promotion, Indonesia is increasing efforts to improve safety standards across destinations. The government has introduced tourism safety improvement programmes, with a particular focus on marine tourism activities.

Marine tourism remains one of Indonesia’s strongest attractions due to its extensive coastline, coral reefs and island destinations. However, improving safety standards is considered essential to ensure better visitor experiences and long-term tourism sustainability.

Capacity-building programmes are being conducted across eight provinces, involving destination managers, tourism communities, guides, tourism operators, coastal groups and other stakeholders.

The training focuses on improving knowledge, preparedness and operational standards for tourism activities connected with coastal and marine environments. By strengthening safety measures, Indonesia aims to create more reliable destinations that can attract international travellers looking for adventure and nature-based experiences.

Indonesia Prepares Major 2027 Tourism Events To Drive Regional Growth

Events are becoming a major part of Indonesia’s tourism development strategy, with preparations underway for the 2027 edition of Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN). The programme is expected to support 125 tourism events across the country.

The initiative focuses on using festivals and cultural celebrations to increase destination visibility, attract visitors and support local economies. Events are designed not only as entertainment attractions but also as platforms for promoting regional identity, traditional culture, creative industries and small businesses.

Tourism events provide opportunities for local communities, artists and micro, small and medium enterprises to participate directly in visitor spending. This creates a stronger connection between tourism growth and economic development at the regional level.

Indonesia is also supporting international events that can generate significant global attention. A major international music concert scheduled at Borobudur in Central Java and Jakarta in late 2026 is expected to attract visitors and contribute substantial economic value.

The event is projected to generate an economic impact of around US$44 million, demonstrating the growing role of international entertainment experiences in Indonesia’s tourism strategy.

Tourism Villages Become Key Drivers Of Indonesia’s Community-Based Travel Growth

Indonesia is expanding its community-based tourism model through thousands of tourism villages spread across the country. By September 2026, Indonesia had recorded 6,400 tourism villages supporting local economic development and offering visitors more authentic cultural experiences.

These villages represent a shift towards sustainable tourism by allowing communities to directly participate in tourism activities. Visitors can experience local traditions, food, crafts, nature and cultural activities while supporting regional livelihoods.

The government is also improving tourism village capabilities through specialised training programmes. A recent initiative focused on Muslim-friendly tourism villages, involving representatives from 25 tourism villages across five provinces.

The programme was developed to improve service standards, strengthen destination management and create tourism products that meet the needs of a wider range of travellers.

Indonesia also supported Indonesian Creative Work 2026, where selected tourism villages presented their products and travel packages directly to visitors. The initiative helped connect travellers with community-based destinations while encouraging greater tourism distribution beyond major cities.

Indonesia Builds A More Diverse Tourism Future Through Innovation And Local Participation

Indonesia’s latest tourism strategy combines international promotion, cultural branding, safety improvements, major events and community participation. The country is focusing not only on increasing visitor arrivals but also on creating stronger economic benefits across regions.

By expanding global sales missions, supporting culinary diplomacy, improving tourism safety and developing tourism villages, Indonesia is building a broader tourism ecosystem capable of attracting different types of travellers.

The focus on sustainable growth, premium experiences and local participation reflects Indonesia’s ambition to become a more competitive global tourism destination. Through continued investment in destinations, events and international partnerships, the country is positioning tourism as a major driver of economic growth and cultural exchange.
