Once again, Rex has asserted its dominance over competitors by achieving the highest On-Time Performance (OTP) among Australian airlines, as per the latest official figures from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE).

In the previous month, Rex significantly outperformed its rivals in terms of reliability:

On-Time DeparturesCancellations
Rex Group74%0.9%
Qantas Group68%3.1%
Virgin Group57%6.2%

Throughout this Financial Year (FY), Rex has consistently topped the charts, maintaining its position as the leading performer from the previous FY as well.

Examining domestic operations specifically from Sydney Airport, the statistics further discredit the larger carriers. BITRE’s data reveals that Rex’s cancellation rate on the Sydney-Melbourne route was a mere 0.75%, while Virgin’s was astronomically higher at 12.5%—a staggering 1,600 times greater. Qantas, though lower than Virgin, still registered a concerning rate of 8%. Both carriers’ cancellation rates on the Sydney-Melbourne route were double their national averages.

“These disproportionately high cancellation rates at Sydney Airport of the two larger carriers
clearly demonstrate their blatant efforts at gaming the Sydney Airport slots system. They
schedule flights they have no intention of flying in order to preserve historical precedence on
the slots, then cancelling them at last minute,” Rex Deputy Chairman, the Hon John Sharp
AM, said
today.

“The deliberate disregard and neglect of the travelling public is truly unconscionable,
especially at this peak holiday travel season.”

“It just goes to show that if you want to reach your destination with a minimum of fuss, have
your flight depart on time and be able to pick up your luggage when you land the choice is
obvious – fly Rex!” Mr Sharp said.

Rex stands as Australia’s premier independent airline, with an extensive fleet comprising 58 Saab 340 and 10 Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, serving 56 destinations across the nation. In addition to its core airline services, the Rex Group encompasses several wholly owned subsidiaries. This includes Pel-Air Aviation, specializing in air freight, aeromedical services, and charter operations. Moreover, the group includes the Australian Airline Pilot Academy, with campuses situated in Wagga Wagga and Ballarat, as well as the Australian Aerospace Propeller Maintenance organization. Further expanding its reach, Rex holds a 50% ownership stake in National Jet Express (NJE), a prominent provider of Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) services, charter flights, and freight operations.
