Access to Ishigaki Island and Travel Tips

You can get to Ishigaki Island quickly and easily. Every day there are multiple flights between Ishigaki and Naha (Okinawa’s capital). There are also daily flights to Ishigaki from major cities such as oneself to pedon Tokyo and Osaka.

Ishigaki Airport is the main and only airport, and from there it is easy to get to the many beaches and the resorts on the island as well as the major hiking destinations. There are also taxis and rental cars for hire.

To get to the other islands in the Yaeyama chain (Taketomi, Iriomote and Kohama Islands) there are ferries available to rent. Sightseeing on the other islands is the main use for these ferries and many Ishigaki visitors choose these islands to see the many things the islands have to offer in the way of nature and culture.

The best time to go is in the dry season, which is from November to March. The average temperature is much more pleasant as outdoor activities are plentiful. The other major season is a typhoon season, May to October. There are times when the time can be quite disruptive to your plans.
