Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said that tourism can bring socio-economic change in the country, especially in North East (N-E) region. Reddy said this while addressing the inaugural session of a conference of tourism and culture ministers of the N-E states.
Reddy said that under the SwadeshDarshan scheme, which focuses on the combined development of theme-based tourist circuits, the ministry has approved 16 projects in the region. The ministry is giving special importance on developing infrastructure, ground capacity and skills in the region.
Under the PRASHAD schemes, the ministry has approved several projects in the region. Approximately Rs. 200 crore has been approved for these projects, Reddy added.
Talking about the initiatives under the DoNER ministry, Reddy said that budgetary distribution to N-E states in 2021-22 is Rs. 68,020 crore. He askedthe state governments to submit practical proposals so that the entire amount across various ministries can be utilizedeffectively.
