United Airlines, Deutsche Bahn and Lufthansa Group have declared a new saleable collaboration that will present better choice and improved connectivity for customers touring between the U.S. and Germany. This new plan, operational from 22 November this year, will permit customers of United Airlines touring between Germany and the U.S. through Frankfurt Airport to reserve combined rail and air trips with only one single deal, one collective charge and one single ticket.

Customers can link between 25 cities in Germany, along with Basel in Switzerland, and United’s centers at New York/Newark, Washington, Denver, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco and elsewhere to places throughout the Americas.

The partnership builds on Star Alliance’s Intermodal Partnership model, introduced in July last year that logically mingles airline with railway, ferry, bus and other conveyance network, alliance-wide. It is intended to connect loyalty arrangements and enable expedient transit in airports, stations and ports.

Among customer welfares are the likelihood to obtain boarding passes for both rail and air segments while checking in, urgent luggage management and other facilities in the AiRail check-in area at Frankfurt Airport, in addition to the capability for customers of United MileagePlusSM to accumulate miles for rail trips undertaken inclusive of a joint rail/air ticket. Also comprised is transfer and connection security in case of postponements and collapses. Entitled customers can relish admission to Deutsche Bahn lounges too.
