The airline revealed to The Points Guy (TPG) its plans to expand the number of personal screens onboard, introduce cutting-edge entertainment options, and significantly boost internet connectivity speeds. Dominic Green, United’s Director of Inflight Entertainment, shared these developments during an exclusive interview with TPG.

One of the key upgrades passengers can look forward to is the installation of more personal TVs across the fleet, with all new screens boasting 4K resolution, delivering some of the sharpest visuals available in the industry.

A standout feature United is testing is the innovative “Control Tower” view on seatback screens. This interactive function allows travelers to see a live view of the airfield around their aircraft, complete with details about surrounding planes on the tarmac. Passengers can even click on nearby planes to access information such as call signs and operating airlines. This feature is powered by FlightPath3D, a product developed by Betria Interactive, and marks a unique addition to the inflight entertainment landscape.

United also plans to regularly roll out software updates to ensure a seamless and bug-free experience for users interacting with the seatback screens, Green noted.

Furthermore, the airline is continuing its collaboration with Starlink to equip its fleet with high-speed satellite internet. While this is a multi-year project still in its early stages, the enhanced connectivity is expected to unlock new possibilities for the inflight entertainment system, including expanded features and faster responsiveness, according to Green.

With these upgrades, United Airlines aims to set a new benchmark in inflight entertainment, creating a more immersive and connected journey for its passengers.
