Universal Studios sets opening for the first theme park in China’s Beijing
Along with rides, shows, restaurants and exhibits, the resort features a pair of hotels.
The project will complement Universal’s other two Asian parks in Japan and Singapore.
Universal Studios announced Monday that its first theme park in China will open in Beijing in September.
The company set the opening date for Sept. 20, according to a statement and video posted on the Chinese social media site Weixin.
The theme park which is under construction since 2016, has received strong backing from Beijing authorities.
This includes an extension of one of the city’s main subway lines to the site.
The Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and Kung Fu Panda film franchises feature heavily along with the Minions from the “Despicable Me” movies.
Beijing’s historic sites have long drawn tourists. The COVID-19 pandemic curtailed a rapidly growing demand for domestic travel and tourism.
But new cases of domestic transmission have been falling which is feeding optimism in the tourism sector.
Universal Studios plans to open its first Chinese theme park in September and Universal Studios’ Beijing will open on Sept. 20.
The theme park will feature experiences familiar to Americans, including Harry Potter and Jurassic Park.
The theme park has been under construction since 2016 and will feature a main subway line in Beijing to the site.
This will be Universal’s third theme park in Asia. Universal also operates theme parks in Japan and Singapore.
