Their findings reveal that Goa, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Srinagar emerge as the top 5 destinations among Indian travelers.

Travel holds profound significance for individuals from all walks of life, whether driven by a thirst for exploration or navigating busy professional schedules. Motivations for travel vary widely; some seek new destinations for leisurely getaways with loved ones, while others embark on journeys for professional networking or inspiration.

According to a report by Crisil, the travel and tourism sector in India is poised to experience a growth rate of 12–14% in the coming years, propelled by India’s GDP growth and advancements in infrastructure and transportation. This growth caters to the evolving preferences of younger travelers who seek memorable experiences. Projections anticipate that by 2023, the travel and tourism industry will generate approximately $9.5 trillion in revenue, with the global tourism market expected to reach $16.9 trillion by 2030, driven by an average annual growth rate of 5.4% from 2022 to 2030. The Asia-Pacific region is anticipated to witness the most significant growth during this period.

Based on data from Wowtickets.com, travelers from across India are actively seeking destinations renowned for natural beauty, beaches, religious landmarks, and bustling business centers. Furthermore, there’s a demand for locations offering insights into India’s rich historical heritage. Among the Top 15 destinations analyzed from 36 million Indians, Goa emerges as the most popular destination, followed by Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, largely driven by professional demand. Srinagar secures the fifth spot.

According to travelers’ preferences, Pune and Patna claim the sixth and seventh positions, respectively. Both cities boast rich historical significance, with ancient forts steeped in regal history, along with vibrant art and cultural heritage. Kolkata, Leh, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow are celebrated for their picturesque landscapes, cultural heritage, and historical landmarks.

Varanasi and Guwahati hold the thirteenth and fourteenth spots, respectively, renowned for ancient temples and Varanasi’s famous Ganga Ghats, while Guwahati is recognized for its museums. Finally, Bagdogra stands out at fifteenth for its tea gardens, breathtaking Himalayan vistas, and lush forests.

  6. Chennai travelers’ top 15 national travel destinations included Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Port Blair, Goa, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Pune, Kochi, Guwahati, Madurai, Patna, and Srinagar, with 9.05 million searches.
  7. Kolkata travelers searched for Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Guwahati, Bagdogra, Port Blair, Goa, Hyderabad, Chennai, Srinagar, Ahmedabad, Agartala, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar, totaling 1.097 million searches.

Additionally, Indians searched for unconventional routes with limited or no direct flights, such as Lucknow to Gangtok, Lucknow to Puducherry, Mumbai to Leh, Pune to Goa, Srinagar to Mumbai, Delhi to Shirdi, Deoghar to Kochi, Lucknow to Imphal, Agra to Jaipur, Gaya to Chennai, and Nasik to Varanasi.
