In line with its pledge to encourage tourism as a catalytic agent for commercial growth and success, sustainability of the environment and inclusive development, UNWTO is collecting consensus around the Statistical Framework for Measuring Sustainability of Tourism.

In Marbella, the fourth meeting of the Expert Group for MST took place in partnership with the Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía, financed together with European Funds to combine technical development and articulate governance drive.

Zoritsa Urosevic, UNWTO Executive Director, said that Andalusia is famous for its collaboration, openness, and novelty, the appropriate symbol for this meeting and for their MST attempt.

MST is keen on establishing an internationally known reference framework for gauging the financial, social and environmental effects and tourism dependencies. So, countries will get the access to the consistent and comparable data internationally at both national and subnational stages.

This makes sure that sustainable efforts assume a combined approach and harvest a long-lasting and meaningful impression.

UNWTO has followed a UN process that will conclude in the presentation of the Statistical Framework for MST to the United Nations Statistical Commission.

The main target is to protect endorsement and thus raise it to the rank of third statistical standard for tourism.
