UNWTO to assist Thassos residents to reconstruct tourism

The new joint project will aim on two important issues, viz. participation of community in tourism and marketing on Thassos. This is part of a wider target to place local communities at the midpoint of the policies related to tourism as the recovery of the sector keeps on gathering pace.

UNWTO will work together with the Municipality as part of the alliance, to improve tourism’s variety and resilience on the island. For Thassos tourism, the marketing initiatives carried out in recent years will be methodically examined, with the main takeaways utilized to keep the future work updated.

On a new Marketing Action Plan, both of them will then cooperate. The marketing activity will focus on providing Thassos with a targeted action plan that would recover the efforts of marketing through modern and effectual marketing tools.

Also, the joint work will understand the vision, insights, and priorities of residents with in terms of tourism development in Thassos.

With the aim of understanding the views of Thassos residents on tourism in a better way, a Residents Study will be conducted. This will comprise carrying on surveys to collect information on the way the residents observe that tourism impacts the economy, culture and environment of the island.
