Published on September 23, 2024

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Department has taken significant steps to enhance the capabilities of the state’s Tourism Police to ensure the safety and security of the growing number of visitors. A three-day training program was recently held at the Manyavar Kanshiram Institute of Tourism Management in Lucknow. This initiative aims to equip the Tourism Police with essential skills to effectively manage emergencies and assist tourists.

Jaiveer Singh, Minister of Tourism and Culture for Uttar Pradesh, highlighted the importance of the training. “The Tourism Police have been established to provide security, assistance, and promote tourist destinations across the state. Given the significant rise in tourist numbers, we are preparing them to face new challenges and provide an enhanced experience to visitors,” he stated.

The training, held from September 19 to 21, focused on several key areas such as effective communication with tourists, emergency response, and healthcare assistance. Participants, including those from tourist hotspots like Agra, Mathura, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Lucknow, and Varanasi, received guidance on maintaining health and hygiene, providing first aid, and handling emergency situations.

This marks the third batch of trainees in 2024, with similar programs being conducted in July and August. During the sessions, participants also learned about public safety strategies, yoga, and meditation, ensuring a well-rounded approach to tourist management.

Jaiveer Singh also emphasized the need for the Tourism Police to be better prepared for inbound travelers, stating, “These tourists involve inbound travelers, and the Tourism Police need to be well-equipped to handle a diverse range of issues and facilitate their journey smoothly.”

The recent rise in tourism in Uttar Pradesh has been remarkable. In 2023, the state welcomed over 480 million domestic and international tourists, and the numbers are continuing to grow. From January to June 2024, the state has already received around 32 crore visitors, showcasing a faster growth rate than the previous year.
