In Venice, the tourist hotspots risks joining the “endangered” list of UNESCO as over tourism carries on overwhelming this ancient city of Italy.

The top budget official of Venice, Michele Zuin, said that they are keeping no stones unturned to avoid this, however it’s not as if they are the slaves of UNESCO.

Over the summer, UNESCO served a warning that Venice has not done enough to defend the cultural sites as after pandemic, tourism has increased manifold across Europe. Revenge travel is the term that social media has given where people making up for the absence of freedom that they tolerated during local as well as national restrictions during the time when pandemic reached its peak.

Tourism has therefore ascended, exceeding the levels of pre-pandemic times. The first half of last year witnessed an almost 250% rise in passenger volumes from the year before when restrictions in travel eased first, and this year it has shown no go-slow, Euronews reported.

Already, Venice had fought a lot with its over tourism menace. In this Italian city, almost 50,000 people live in and during Carnival the city receives millions of tourists every year.

In 1987, Venice joined the list of World Heritage sites, but failed to uphold the quality of the historical sites.
