VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) has recently achieved a milestone with its new reservation system, surpassing 100,000 bookings. The updated system not only provides passengers with a seamless and intuitive booking process but also introduces a range of new features.
Beyond a mere reservation system upgrade, this significant modernization project involved a complete replacement of the booking platform. VIA Rail undertook a comprehensive overhaul of all related infrastructure and systems, including the loyalty program and Point-of-Sale systems. The integration with existing systems was also part of this extensive initiative. Despite the complexity of this large-scale endeavor, VIA Rail is pleased to report minimal disruptions for passengers. Any issues that arose were promptly addressed, and the system’s performance is continually monitored.
Mario Péloquin, President and Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of the new reservation system in VIA Rail’s transformation. He stated, “This customer-centric reservation system is a vital component of our ongoing modernization efforts. In 2023, as we embark on various projects, this nationwide initiative lays the groundwork for an enhanced customer experience.”
Key features of the new system include increased autonomy and a simplified online booking process for diverse needs such as specific requirements, pets, and service animals. The system ensures a user-friendly experience across all devices, allows autonomous booking modifications and upgrades, and enables independent seat selection in the Corridor.
Recognizing the forward-looking nature of passenger rail, the new reservation system prioritizes organizational sustainability. It is designed to adapt over time, ensuring VIA Rail remains in step with the evolving needs and expectations of both current and future passengers.
