Viasat, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a leading provider of satellite communications worldwide, announced today that Icelandair has chosen its cutting-edge inflight Wi-Fi solution for the airline’s upcoming fleet of Airbus aircraft. These aircraft are set to operate routes between Iceland and Europe, as well as transatlantic flights, with deliveries expected to commence in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2024. This marks a significant milestone as Icelandair ventures into operating Airbus aircraft for the first time.

In line with Icelandair’s commitment to enhancing passenger experiences, Viasat’s satellite connectivity service will be tailored to deliver top-notch, high-speed internet access on all flight routes, facilitating streaming entertainment and real-time productivity tools for passengers and crew alike, ensuring connectivity throughout the journey.

By leveraging Viasat’s expertise in catering to aviation needs, Icelandair will benefit from fast and reliable inflight connectivity, particularly along popular flight paths and bustling airport hubs. Viasat’s ability to adapt satellite capacity to match demand peaks ensures a consistently superior inflight Wi-Fi experience, even during periods of heightened usage. Together, Viasat and Icelandair aim to provide passengers with a seamless, high-quality inflight internet service, setting new standards for in-flight connectivity.

“For several years now, we have enjoyed a great partnership with Icelandair while servicing its complete Boeing 737 MAX fleet,” said Don Buchman, VP and GM, Commercial Aviation at Viasat. “We understand the patterns of Icelandair’s operation and passenger demand for in-flight Wi-Fi, and we are excited to extend this experience and trust to include fast and resilient connectivity on the new Airbus aircraft.”

“By expanding our high-speed streaming Wi-Fi offering to the new aircraft, we are doubling down on the state-of-the-art connectivity that has become a highly sought-after element of the Icelandair passenger experience,” said Helga Huld Bjarnadóttir, Director Product and Service Management, Icelandair. “Viasat has proven to be an innovative and trusted partner for how we approach the future of Wi-Fi at Icelandair, and we look forward to continuing this into the future.”
