At the Vietnam-Australia Economic Forum 2024, held in Melbourne, Vietjet announced a significant development expected to invigorate travel between the Victorian and Vietnamese capitals. This announcement was made in the presence of the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, during the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit. The new route not only promises to boost travel but also serves as a complement to the airline’s service between Melbourne and Ho Chi Minh City initiated in April 2023.

Commencement and Schedule
It was shared that the service is slated to begin on June 3, 2024, operating bi-weekly. Flights are scheduled to depart from Melbourne every Monday and Friday at 17:10 local time, with the journey spanning approximately ten hours. Conversely, the return flights from Hanoi are set for departure on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 7:30 local time.

Statements from Vietjet and Melbourne Airport
Vietjet’s Vice President, Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, expressed enthusiasm about the new route, emphasizing it as a testament to Vietjet’s commitment to providing Australians and international tourists with unique experiences in Vietnam. She anticipates that the route will act as a catalyst for bolstering tourism and economic ties between Vietnam and Australia.

Jim Parashos, Melbourne Airport’s Chief of Aviation, reflected on the broader implications of the route, attributing its realization to the liberalization of bilateral agreements between the two countries. He highlighted the route’s potential to enhance direct connections for education, trade, and tourism purposes, potentially leading to more competitive airfare prices. Parashos also noted the growing significance of Vietnam as a travel destination for Melbourne residents and the increasing popularity of Melbourne among Vietnamese travelers, suggesting a positive outlook for the route’s success.

Impact on Tourism and Economic Relations
The new Melbourne-Hanoi route by Vietjet is poised to significantly impact tourism and economic relations between Vietnam and Australia. By providing a direct link between the two capitals, the route is expected to facilitate not only leisure and business travel but also cultural and educational exchanges, thereby strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
