The handover ceremony took place at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, marking a significant milestone for the renowned cruise line. With the addition of this new ship, Viking® continues to enhance its offerings along the Nile, further cementing its position as a leader in river cruising.

The Viking Amun, designed to accommodate 82 guests across 41 staterooms, is crafted to navigate the Nile River with ease. It is a key feature of Viking’s renowned 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. Echoing the elegant Scandinavian design that Viking is celebrated for, the Viking Amun draws inspiration from the brand’s award-winning river and ocean vessels. As a sister ship to the Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, and Viking Hathor, the Viking Amun boasts signature Viking features like its unique square bow and a versatile indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace. Together with its sister ships, this vessel represents the most modern fleet sailing the Nile River today. Viking’s Egypt fleet also includes the Viking Ra and MS Antares.

Viking, a global leader in experiential travel, is expanding its presence on the Nile River with exciting plans to introduce five new ships in Egypt over the next two years. This will increase its Nile River fleet to a total of 12 vessels by 2027. This move is part of Viking’s broader long-term growth strategy, aimed at strengthening its position as a dominant player in the river cruise market and further enhancing its offering for travelers seeking unique cultural experiences.

The company’s commitment to growth extends beyond Egypt, as Viking anticipates the delivery of 27 new river ships by 2028. This will expand its river cruise fleet to a remarkable 112 ships, allowing it to offer more immersive travel experiences to customers across Europe, Asia, and beyond. The additional ships will continue to uphold Viking’s signature style of comfort, luxury, and personalized service, while also incorporating the latest sustainable technologies and design trends.

In addition to river cruises, Viking is also making significant strides in its ocean cruise operations. By 2031, the company plans to introduce 10 new ocean vessels, further bolstering its diverse fleet. With these additions, Viking will operate a combined total of 23 ocean and expedition ships, ensuring its customers have a wide range of destinations and itineraries to choose from. The new ships will be equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, continuing Viking’s legacy of excellence in luxury cruising.
