VinSpeed And Siemens Mobility Partner To Power High-Speed Rail Along With Rail Tourism In Vietnam

Published on December 17, 2025

Vietnam is about to rush into a new phase of railway travel as the VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company and Siemens Mobility GmbH signed a comprehensive strategic partnership dedicated to the development of high-speed rail. The deal, which was made public in Hanoi, indicates a significant step in the direction of convenient and eco-friendly rail travel that has the potential to change the way people discover the urban areas, beaches, and the cultural centers of Vietnam.

At its core, the partnership brings together VinSpeed’s local project expertise and market knowledge with Siemens Mobility’s global rail technology portfolio. According to information shared on the companies’ official websites, the collaboration covers system design, rolling stock, signalling, telecommunications, power supply, maintenance cooperation and a structured technology transfer programme. For travellers, this means future routes designed to international standards, smoother operations and a consistently high onboard experience.

Strategic partnership with tourism at heart

Under the agreements, Siemens Mobility will undertake the design, supply and integration of trains and critical rail systems, while working alongside VinSpeed to localise maintenance and technical capabilities over time. This approach is intended to ensure long-term reliability while nurturing domestic expertise, an important factor for a country positioning rail as a pillar of sustainable tourism.

A framework agreement also outlines the supply of rolling stock and subsystems for two high-profile corridors: Hanoi to Quang Ninh, and Ben Thanh to Can Gio. These routes link urban centres with UNESCO-listed landscapes, beaches and biosphere reserves, destinations where seamless rail access can meaningfully disperse tourism benefits beyond airports and highways.

Velaro Novo: Redefining the journey

The partnership is expected to deploy Velaro Novo, Siemens Mobility’s latest high-speed train platform. Designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, the wide-body electric multiple unit offers higher capacity and quieter rides key attributes for leisure travellers seeking comfort and speed without sacrificing scenery.

Energy efficiency is a standout feature. With substantially lower energy consumption than previous generations, Velaro Novo aligns with Vietnam’s sustainability ambitions and the preferences of eco-conscious tourists. Advanced signalling, ETCS Level 2 with automatic train operation supports high safety standards and reliable timetables, helping travellers plan multi-city itineraries with confidence.

What it means for passengers and tourists

For passengers, high-speed rail promises shorter travel times, reduced congestion and a relaxed alternative to short-haul flights. Spacious interiors, improved accessibility and smoother acceleration translate into a calmer journey, particularly appealing for families and international visitors navigating a new country.

From a tourism perspective, the Hanoi–Quang Ninh line could make day trips to Ha Long Bay’s gateway far more convenient, while the Ben Thanh–Can Gio route would connect Ho Chi Minh City’s urban energy with coastal escapes and mangrove experiences. By shrinking perceived distances, high-speed rail encourages travellers to explore more regions in a single trip, supporting hotels, attractions and local communities along the route.

Industry views and long-term vision

VinSpeed’s leadership indicated that the partnership represented a milestone in building modern, international-standard transport infrastructure, with socio-economic benefits extending well beyond mobility. Siemens Mobility’s global chief executive was quoted as expressing pride in supporting Vietnam’s first high-speed rail lines, highlighting the combination of innovation, lower lifecycle costs and passenger comfort as transformative for everyday travel and tourism alike.

The comments suggested that a turnkey approach covering infrastructure and rolling stock could raise service quality quickly, while technology transfer would help Vietnam develop a resilient rail ecosystem. Over time, this is expected to stimulate tourism growth, workforce development and regional connectivity.

Rail as a sustainable tourism catalyst

As a member of Vingroup’s infrastructure pillar, VinSpeed was established to pioneer high-speed rail and modern transport projects across Vietnam. The company’s stated mission aligns with global travel trends that favour low-carbon transport and immersive journeys over point-to-point flying.

For travellers, high-speed rail offers more than speed: it delivers the pleasure of watching landscapes unfold, arriving in city centres, and travelling with a lighter environmental footprint. For Vietnam, it represents an invitation to rediscover the country by rail, linking heritage, nature and modern cities in a way that feels both efficient and enriching.

The VinSpeed–Siemens Mobility partnership, which is in the pipeline, sees high-speed rail not only as a means of infrastructure but as the central point for the future of Vietnam’s rail tourism-there the trip is as unforgettable as the place.
