The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA)’s outer harbour’s building of the international cruise terminal, which was sponsored by the Center, is now complete, and it is getting ready for opening.

“It’s a prestigious project and team effort has been made to take up the project on a fast-track mode. This will certainly bring a lot of domestic and international passengers to this region, blessed with panoramic beauty and several Buddhist sites once cruise services are offered,” VPA Chairman Dr M Angamuthu, told Bizz Buzz.

On February 8, 2022, the contract for the terminal’s construction was given for Rs 52.93 crore. Despite a number of obstacles, the building was nearly finished on time. Once operational, the facility is anticipated to make Visakhapatnam a major cruise hub.

The berth measures 335m in length when the shore protection and the mooring dolphin are included. 300m is the intended overall length (LOA), with a 37.6m beam and an 8.1m draft. The measurements are 15 meters wide and 180 meters long. Site removal, cleaning, and ancillary work are now being done.

The cruise terminal is now open for business, according to recent information provided to the Parliament by Union Minister of State for Tourism Ajay Bhatt.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways had requested funding for the cruise-cum-cargo terminal in 2018–19, and the Ministry of Tourism had granted their request. He noted that even though the project was supposed to be finished in April, the pandemic caused a minor delay.

To launch seaplane services for the benefit of tourists, he claimed, a survey is being conducted.
