Alexandre Calil Sicchieri Silva from Brazil provided VR experience to participants at the recently convened 2023 World Conference on VR Industry, emphasising both Brazilian culture and interactiveness, reports Xinhua news agency.

The 2023 World Conference on VR Industry, held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, east China, from Thursday to Friday, drew over 3,000 industry insiders and professionals from across the world.

Visitors wearing VR headsets are transported to an ancient Brazilian cave where centuries-old rock drawings appear before their eyes, and they may even make similar artworks with their fingertips.
Alexandre Calil is the CEO of VRXP-Consultancy & Production. His company specializes in large extended reality (XR) event production and XR experience design. The interactive experience he presented, Ink & Fire, won international awards in France. It offers users the chance to interact with ancient rock art
created by indigenous peoples in Brazil, which boasts the largest collection in the Southern Hemisphere.
VRXP-Consultancy & Production’s CEO is Alexandre Calil. His firm specialises in the staging of large-scale extended reality (XR) events and the creation of XR experiences.

Ink & Fire, the interactive experience he presented, earned international accolades in France. It allows users to engage with ancient rock art produced by indigenous Brazilians, who have the biggest collection in the Southern Hemisphere.

“In order to recreate these special paintings as effectively as possible, my team took 300,000 pictures so that people can experience them. I hope that more Chinese people can learn about Brazilian culture and history,” said Alexandre Calil. He added that he is also looking for ways to set up an Ink & Fire
exposition in China.

Alexandre Calil’s interest in China’s VR sector began in 2016, when the former teacher launched a VR company and was invited to a Chinese industry conference.

“At that time, the whole VR industry was just starting up and I was confused about the future direction of the company. China’s VR industry is one of the leaders of the global market, so I hoped to understand China’s industry and market, and then find the answer,” Alexandre Calil said.
Alexandre Calil spotted a succession of VR industry collaboration initiatives launched by Chinese local governments during the meeting that piqued his curiosity.

“These projects involved education, scientific research, tourism, games and other aspects, showing that China’s VR application market had a broad prospect, which would also bring many opportunities to practitioners from all over the world,” he said.

He argues that the dominance of English-language material in this industry is a hurdle for Brazilian VR practitioners. His organisation intends to translate high-quality virtual reality content into Portuguese in order to make this technology more accessible to Brazilians and to contribute to many sectors.

At the same time, Alexandre Calil anticipates further collaboration between China and Brazil in the VR business.
