At ITB Berlin 2024, we had the opportunity to speak with Pradeep Bohra, the dynamic Director of the Palace on Wheels, India’s emblem of luxury rail travel. For 42 years, this magnificent luxury travel train has woven through the heart of Rajasthan, Indian state, offering globetrotters an unparalleled journey steeped in opulence and history.

Rated as the second-best luxury train in the world by a reputed magazine, with Japan’s Shiki-shima claiming the top spot, the India’s pride Palace on Wheels stands as a testament to India’s rich heritage and hospitality.

Pradeep Bohra ‘s role encompasses overseeing operations, sales, and marketing, drawing from his deep understanding of what travelers seek: innovation and an authentic experience. “We know what people want and the innovations they desire on board,” Bohra states, emphasizing his mission to tailor the Palace on Wheels to the evolving tastes of international guests.

Looking ahead to 2024, Bohra is most excited about meeting the demands of discerning travelers who seek value for their investment. The key focuses include digitalized reservations and easing visa hassles for international visitors, a significant barrier that Bohra acknowledges needs addressing to streamline access to India’s wonders.

The Palace on Wheels itself promises a hassle-free exploration of Rajasthan. Over seven days, guests embark from Delhi, venturing through Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bharatpur, and back, encompassing a rich tapestry of wildlife, cultural festivals, and breathtaking landscapes. From elephant and camel rides to boat excursions in the desert, the journey is a celebration of Rajasthan’s vibrant culture and history.

Sustainability is another cornerstone of the Palace on Wheels, aligning with the Indian government’s commitment to eco-friendly tourism. Initiatives include utilising battery-operated buses and focusing on reducing carbon footprints, ensuring that this luxurious journey through time also respects the environment.

The primary markets for the Palace on Wheels include the United Kingdom and the United States of America, with plans to expand into the UAE and Japan. Bohra’s vision for the train is not just about showcasing the grandeur of yesteryears but offering a contemporary glimpse into India’s soul, inviting travelers to experience the country’s enduring charm and diversity.
