A road at Linlithgow in West Lothian, Scotland, is set to be closed for the next two weeks to enable engineers to increase the height of a railway boundary wall.

The road is Royal Terrace in Linlithgow, which will be closed from Saturday, February 10 until Sunday, February 25.

Work will take place both during the day and at night, with daytime work taking place from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00.

Night-time work will take place overnight on from 22.00 on Saturday, 10 February until 08.00 on Sunday, 11 February, from 22.00 on Saturday, 17 February until 08.00 on Sunday, 18 February, and from 22.00 on Saturday, 24 February until 08.00 on Sunday, 25 February.

The work is necessary so that the wall complies with current railway standards and to protect the safety of both passengers and lineside neighbours.

The height of the wall needs to be increased in height to 1.8m, and engineers will use stone that closely matches the existing wall.

Further information about the work can be obtained by contacting Network Rail’s national helpline on 03457 11 41 41.

While the work is going on, residents, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access the road, but vehicles will be diverted via Preston Road, High Street, High Port and station road, and vice versa.

Stephen Boslem, works delivery manager for Network Rail said: “The work to raise the height of the railway boundary on Royal Terrace in Linlithgow is part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and reliable railway.

“While we need to close the road to vehicles to deliver the work safely and efficiently, we will maintain access throughout for local residents, pedestrians and cyclists to minimise the impact of the closure.

“We’d like to thank local residents for their patience as we carry out this work.”
