WestJet announced an 11% decrease in its fuel emissions intensity for 2023 compared to 2019, showcasing its dedication to responsible growth and alignment with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) objective of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.

This reduction in aircraft emissions intensity is a result of strategic measures such as fleet modernization and conscientious network planning. By integrating newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft and optimizing flight paths, WestJet is effectively reducing its environmental footprint.

“Sustainability has been a core value for WestJet for more than two decades. Our achievements in reducing emissions intensity demonstrates our commitment to climate change and positions WestJet as a leader in Canada with a proven track record in sustainable aviation,” said Angela Avery, WestJet Group Executive Vice President and Chief People, Corporate and Sustainability Officer.

Remaining steadfast in its commitment to sustainable aviation, WestJet continues to seek innovative approaches to bolster its progress while upholding its mission of providing accessible air travel for Canadians. Its ongoing initiatives encompass forward-looking fleet modernization strategies and advocacy for the production of sustainable aviation fuel within Canada.
