Wildlife enthusiast Michaela Strachan embarked on Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ ‘The Intrepid Beauty of Africa and the Indian Ocean’ voyage, spending four nights exploring Cape Town.

Between January 26th and 29th, Michaela, a fixture on television for three decades, enriched the experience of guests by sharing her vast knowledge and accompanying them on various excursions.

Michaela said:

“Having lived in South Africa for several years, it was an absolute pleasure to shine a light on Cape Town and introduce guests to some of the absolute gems it has to offer.

“It was a real treat to take guests to Boulders Beach to see its charismatic penguin colony and the Cape of Good Hope to take in the unique flora and fauna.

“We also visited Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden – one of the great botanic gardens in the world – and Constantia Vineyard for wine tasting.”

In addition to the excursions, Michaela presented a lecture on penguin rescue and conservation efforts. Drawing from her volunteer work at SANCCOB, the local sea bird rescue center, she discussed the critical task of safeguarding the African Penguin, recounting her firsthand experiences in hand-rearing these birds and addressing the 2020 Cape Cormorant crisis, which saw thousands of chicks requiring rescue from Robben Island nearby.

Furthermore, Michaela engaged in a live question and answer session with Entertainment Manager Andy Godfrey.

James Moss, Itinerary Product Manager at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:

“It was an absolute joy to welcome Michaela on board once again as we visited her home town of Cape Town.

“Thanks to Michaela’s local knowledge, our guests were able to enjoy authentic, immersive experiences; an opportunity that I’m sure they relished.”

The Grand Voyage has afforded guests the opportunity to traverse the towering dunes of Namib, the world’s oldest desert, to encounter the Big Five in the African savannahs, and to immerse themselves in the rich cultures and traditions of less-traveled destinations such as Mozambique, Mayotte, and Ghana. Bolette is scheduled to arrive back in Southampton on February 20th.

Embark on Bolette’s 27-night T2417 ‘Scenic Wonders and Wildlife of Canada and Greenland’ cruise, setting sail from Liverpool on July 19th. Prices for this unforgettable journey start from £3,799 per person.
