Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, the ultra-affordable national airline in the UAE, proudly unveiled its remarkable operational achievements for the year 2023. As a joint venture between ADQ and Wizz Air Holdings PLC, it marked a groundbreaking year, surpassing expectations by doubling its volume of flights and passengers carried while maintaining an impressive 99.6% completion rate. Throughout 2023, the airline operated over 15,000 flights, serving three million passengers, including 1.5 million travelers to Abu Dhabi. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi remains a vital contributor in fostering innovation, resilience, and the integration of Abu Dhabi’s cultural and tourism sectors, showcasing the Emirate’s offerings globally and enhancing lives.
Aligned with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism’s goal to welcome 24 million visitors in 2023, the airline actively promotes Abu Dhabi as a year-round tourism hotspot. It emphasizes the Emirate’s appeal by presenting diverse, captivating, and rejuvenating experiences that visitors can savor at their leisure. Additionally, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi contributes significantly to the UAE’s tourism sector, in harmony with the UAE Tourism Strategy 2031, reinforcing the UAE’s stature as a premier global tourism destination.
Continuously expanding its network in the UAE, Wizz Air currently operates flights to 40 destinations across 27 countries from Abu Dhabi, fostering travel enthusiasm to culturally rich locations, encompassing dynamic cities and enchanting, lesser-known resorts. The airline introduced a fresh travel segment in line with the country’s socio-economic vision, expanding into Central Asia, North Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, enabling seamless, self-connected travel within the broader Wizz Air network through Abu Dhabi. Ranking as the second-largest carrier in Abu Dhabi, the airline remains dedicated to its commitment of making travel accessible for all and anticipates further expansion in 2024.
In 2023, the national ultra-low fare airline augmented its fleet by incorporating four new A321 aircraft, bolstering the total fleet to 12 and escalating seat capacity by 135% to 3.7 million seats available for sale. With a 100% increase in its workforce, the airline actively contributes to local employment, invests in state-of-the-art technology for its aircraft, and collaborates closely with partners, regulators, and stakeholders to drive sustainable aviation initiatives.
Demonstrating a profound commitment to sustainability, the airline recently entered into an agreement with the UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure to champion sustainability initiatives. It aims to raise awareness among passengers about environmentally conscious practices through educational campaigns on various online platforms, forums, and stakeholder events. Moreover, it endorses the ‘Switch off Take off’ initiative, a National Conservation program, emphasizing responsible and eco-friendly air travel.
