Wizz Air is one of the fastest growing airlines in Europe and currently operates from two more of Swedavia’s airports: Göteborg Landvetter Airport and Malmö Airport. The airline has now set its sights on Stockholm Arlanda Airport, and starting 31 October this year, it will be launching two new direct routes to Budapest and Gdansk. The routes will be operated with the Airbus A320 and A321.

The new routes will be a welcome addition as well as a complement to Stockholm Arlanda’s existing direct routes to Europe. It will also provide a boost to the tourism industry in Stockholm and Sweden. Indeed there is an increased interest in visiting Stockholm from both Poland and Hungary and flight accessibility is an important parameter given our location in Europe.

Tourism to Hungary and Poland from Sweden has also increased in popularity in recent years and has had a strong recovery since the pandemic. Budapest, with its thermal baths, historic architecture, shopping and storied history is a popular destination for Swedish tourists, not to mention Gdansk, with its rich culture and ideal location on the Polish Riviera, which attracts plenty of visitors.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Wizz Air to Stockholm Arlanda Airport, and we look forward to continuing to build on our long cooperation with the company. The new direct routes not only improve access to Europe from the Stockholm region, but also access to Sweden. Swedavia’s role is to enable people to meet, and Wizz Air’s presence at Stockholm Arlanda will not only be appreciated by those who want to travel to visit family and friends, but also by Swedish tourists who want to discover Hungary and Poland and vice versa as well as by those who travel for business”, says Elizabeth Axtelius, Director Aviation Business at Swedavia.

“We are delighted to add Arlanda as our newest station to our evergrowing network and with that offer flights to our customers to the biggest airport of Sweden’s capital. We are positive that our passengers travelling from Stockholm will appreciate the proximity of the airport and will fly with us to exciting destinations, which will also translate into saved time and money thanks to a shorter trip between downtown and the airport. Our crew is looking forward to welcoming our passengers on board of one of the youngest and modern WIZZ fleet starting from 31st of October”, says Zsuzsa Trubek, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

Starting 31 October 2023, Wizz Air will operate Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) 4 times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) and Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN) 14 times a week.
