Wizz Air, recognized as Europe’s fastest-growing and most environmentally sustainable airline worldwide*, has announced that it transported a total of 60.3 million passengers in the year 2023.

This marks a historic achievement for WIZZ, boasting the highest annual passenger traffic figures to date and a remarkable 32% surge compared to the previous year, 2022. Throughout 2023, Wizz Air expanded its reach by introducing close to a hundred new routes, receiving 32 state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft, and covering a combined distance of 263 million kilometers.

The airline demonstrated exceptional operational reliability, successfully completing 99.31% of its scheduled flights in 2023—ranking it as the third-best among all European airlines, well surpassing the industry average. Wizz Air also secured a position in the top three European airlines for the share of flights operated precisely on time.

With a 23% increase in capacity, Wizz Air enhanced its services in 2023, launching over 10 new routes from the UK and operating from 7 airports, including two bases at London Luton and London Gatwick. Managing over 59,000 flights to and from the UK, the airline experienced an 11% increase compared to 2022 while simultaneously improving operational efficiency.

In a commitment to sustainability, Wizz Air accomplished its first fully electric turnarounds in Rome and Budapest, reinforcing its environmental credentials. The airline invested £5 million in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) research and development and partnered with biofuels firm Firefly Green Fuels to supply SAF to its UK operations from 2028, totaling up to 525,000 tonnes over 15 years.

Notably, Wizz Air proudly sponsored its inaugural running event in the UK, the Wizz Air Hackney Half, with plans to continue the partnership in 2024.

Zsuzsa Trubek, Wizz Air’s Corporate Communication Manager, expressed pride in concluding 2023 with record-breaking passenger numbers, an expanding network, a modernized fleet, and improved operational performance. Recognizing the UK as a pivotal market, she emphasized the anticipation of continued growth through additional investments in 2024. Trubek also shared excitement about celebrating 20 years of affordable travel with Wizz Air in 2024, expressing eagerness to embark on more thrilling adventures with passengers and welcome them onboard.
