Loganair Creates Magical Scotland Scenic Flight Experience For CHAS Families From Glasgow Airport

Loganair and its charity partner, Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), created a wonderful opportunity for families across Scotland. Those families included children with life-limited conditions. They had the opportunity to go on a scenic flight around the west coast of Scotland. Loganair wanted those families to experience on the flight the joy and adventure that comes with magical trips. This opportunity was bid on and won by families from Glasgow Airport.

Six families received VIP treatment on board one of Loganair’s ATR 72-600 aircraft as they enjoyed a unique journey from Glasgow Airport. The special flight operated under flight number LM1996, highlighting the year Rachel House, the CHAS children’s hospice, opened its doors.

Before the aircraft departed, families were welcomed to Glasgow Airport’s Campsie Lounge for a morning filled with entertainment and activities. Children enjoyed character meet-and-greets, singalongs and soft-play sessions, while Police Scotland officers also joined the celebrations and took part in the fun.

The magic continued throughout the flight as Princess Merida and Spider Gwen, supported by Glasgow-based Wish Upon a Star Kingdom, joined the young passengers for the scenic round trip. The aircraft travelled across the Highlands and Islands, offering families stunning views of Scotland’s west coast before returning safely to Glasgow Airport.

The return of the special flight was marked with a spectacular water cannon salute from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, creating a memorable welcome for the children and their families.

Among the passengers was four-year-old Isla Johnstone from Glasgow, who has Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). Isla and her family have received support from Robin House and the CHAS at Home service over the past year.

The event brought together Loganair, Glasgow Airport, CHAS and supporting organisations to deliver a special day of joy, adventure and unforgettable memories for families supported by Scotland’s children’s hospice network.

Isla’s mum Georgeta said:

This flight was so special for us as Isla hasn’t been on a plane since she was a baby and she was always asking me when she can fly again, but because of her condition, it just hasn’t been possible until now.

Isla was so excited flying over all the islands and loved every single minute of this wonderful experience.  We are incredibly thankful to Loganair and CHAS for making Isla’s dream come true.

Isla said:

My favourite thing about the flight was being up in the air and flying! I also loved meeting Merida and Spider-Gwen.

The special flight celebrated the fifth anniversary of the partnership between Loganair and CHAS, with support from Glasgow Airport operator AGS, ground handling provider Menzies, ABM, Wish Upon a Star Kingdom and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Loganair has continued to strengthen its support for CHAS by introducing a voluntary £2 donation option during online bookings in 2024, helping generate additional funding for the charity. The airline also backs CHAS at Home, an outreach service that provides vital nursing support to families living in Scotland’s remote island communities.

Over the past year, CHAS at Home delivered 1,476 visits to families, ensuring specialist care reached children and loved ones closer to their homes. Since the partnership began in 2021, Loganair has raised more than £100,000 for CHAS, helping the charity continue its essential support for families across Scotland.

Loganair operates more than 70 routes across the UK and Europe, connecting communities in Scotland and beyond for more than six decades. The airline continues to support local communities through initiatives such as its GreenSkies Community Fund, which has contributed over £120,000 towards sustainability-focused projects since it was launched in 2021.
