Xiamen, East China’s Fujian Province’s coastal tourism city has barricaded two districts and one local hospital on early Monday. Two positive COVID-19 patients were detected in those areas, one of whom is linked to infections in Putian where 64 positive cases have been reported since Friday.
The Global Times found that as two national holidays approach in a few days, the locals who had plans to travel to Xiamen are in a panic situation over the two positive cases. Xiamen received more than 2.71 million visitors during the Mid-Autumn Festival and the October 1 National Day holidays in 2020.
The Tongan district in Xiamen and Siming district have imposed lockdowns of four streets and five streets in one community on early Monday. Residents living within the areas are not permitted to go out.
With the surname Wu, the COVID-19 patient was in close contact of a patient from Putian was found in Xiamen’s Tongan district, making Xiamen the second city linked to the Putian clustered outbreak after Quanzhou. Putian, about 170 kilometers away from Xiamen is a well-known “shoe city.”
As reported on Sunday, one case of infection from the Siming district’s First Hospital affiliated with Xiamen University. The COVID-19 infection was a logistics support staff member working at the hospital. Now, the hospital has shut down its onsite emergence and outpatient services.
