American Airlines has further cut down international flight capacity by 34%. The decision arrived following the increased travel ban in the United States for foreign nationals in response to the deadly COVID-19 spread. The U.S government recently announced entry restrictions from most part of Europe especially from regions majorly hit by the coronavirus.
On Thursday, the airline declared that it will decrease international capacity by 34% during the peak summer season. It will also impose a 50% reduction in transatlantic capacity for the month of April. In light of the travel ban from Europe, the airline noticed a sharp decline in demand for flights in the included regions.
American will be suspending all flights from Charlotte and Philadelphia to European venues as the cities do not fall under the government-approved gateways in U.S. Services to London Heathrow will also be cut down or completely slashed. Various flights offering seasonal service to multiple destinations will also be delayed until May.
American Airlines will also stop operations to its strongest region in multiple destinations of South America. In addition, flights to Argentina, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Sao Paolo and Cordoba will also be suspended.
However, the airline has confirmed that it will continue to operate regular service between Dallas Fort-Worth International Airport, John F Kennedy International Airport New York and Miami International Airport to Barcelona, Paris and Madrid for the next seven days. This action has been undertaken in order to allow travellers and employees to return home.
It has also been announced that American Airlines would be resuming the suspended flights as early as 7th May 2020.
