Barbados recently mentioned that UK tourists will be included in the list of COVID “high risk” countries. This clearly states that the tourists will be quarantined for up to a week and additional new restrictions will be implemented from October 1 after a surge in coronavirus cases in the UK.

On arrival, the holiday makers will be expected to display evidence of a negative Covid-19 PCR (polymerase chain reaction), or risk being refused entry to the Caribbean country. After this the visitors will be isolated or quarantined and shall be monitored for up to seven days at a designated “holding hotel or approved villa” at personal expense, or at a government facility free of charge.

After four or five days, they will be retested and may leave quarantine if they receive a negative result. Some of the other “high risk” countries are namely, France, Ireland, Switzerland and the US. Barbados is a popular winter sun destination for UK tourists. Due to pandemic the travel bans led to a complete pause in visiting the region. It reopened its borders to international travel on July 12 under new regulations and by following new-normal norms. The tourism authorities of the country also messaged their potential visitors that though Barbados welcomes guests and have reopened tourism to the beautiful island the tourists are expected to take necessary precautions, follow new-normal rules and adhere to safeguarding regulations implemented by the local authorities to protect both locals and visitors from the virus threat.

Recently Barbados recorded a seven-day rate of 1.4 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people, while the UK is on 52.1.
