On Wednesday, China’s Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) eased travel restrictions on tourists from multiple places on the mainland. Recently, COVID-19 flared up effectively reined in, in a well-mannered adjustment that sets to boost the SAR’S tourism sector. Macao’s hotel occupancy rate went up by 30% compared with the previous day.
On Tuesday, The Macao Health Bureau declared that with effect from Wednesday, measured for individuals who went to areas including Tianshui, Northwest China’s Gansu Province, Yinchuan, Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Erenhot, and North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region will be lifted.
The validity period for a negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test result for air passengers inbound from the mainland had been adjusted back to 7 days from 48 hours said to the Macao authorities. On Tuesday, the Chinese Mainland said four new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases.
Jiang Yiyi (professor of the leisure sports and tourism school of Beijing Sport University) said the timely adjustment is a positive sign to help restore the tourism industry is a core sector for Macao. The city topped all outbound destinations ahead of China’s Hong Kong SAR, Vietnam, and South Korea.
Macao’s economy spread 32.9% year by year in the third quarter.
