West Kallada, a peaceful village on the outer edge of Kollam, is getting prepared to turn into an important tourism destination.
The tourism project fitting in Sasthamcotta Lake and the Kallada River will be implemented with the support of the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund of K. Somaprasad, the Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB), Kerala State Electricity Board, and the Fisheries department.
This project is a village tourism initiative and will introduce an all-new destination while adhering with the green protocol completely. As West Kallada is situated quite close to Munroe Thuruthu, officials are also trying to introduce backwater packages covering both the destinations.
Tiles will be laid on a 1.5-kms long and 2-m wide stretch of Bund Road, as part of the project. For this, Rs.10 lakh has been sanctioned. Every 100 m on both sides of the road, benches will be installed while coir geotextile will be laid to stop soil erosion. In the area, the Kerala State Electricity Board also has plans to generate electricity by installing solar panels. By planting small trees, the road will also be beautified and arrangements will be made for morning and evening walkers as well. Rs. 45 lakh has been sanctioned by the Fisheries Department for the Ikkarazhikathumukku road. This road winds through the fields along the backwaters. By spending Rs. 15 lakh, yet another road leading to the bund will be completed and the construction of both the roads has already started.
